Tour of duty primarily Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day.
The VA Montana Health Care System provides a VA presence in every major city in the state through a series of community based clinics, a community living center, and an acute care medical center.
Fort Harrison (Helena) is a 48-bed acute care, medical-surgical facility that offers a broad range of acute, chronic, and specialized inpatient and outpatient services for both male and female veterans. Specialty care includes internal medicine, gerontology, neurology, dermatology, cardiology, palliative care, pain managemen! t, medical oncology, surgery (general, vascular, laparoscopic,! endoscopic), urology, orthopedics, plastic, ophthalmology, ENT, podiatry, gynecology, chiropractic care, psychiatry (including outpatient substance abuse treatment and PTSD and MST specific care), and ambulatory care (primary care). Radiology Service provides a broad range of diagnostic and interventional care provided on a full time basis. Pathology Services are available on site also provided on a full time basis. Telemedicine services are available for psychiatry, radiology, gynecology, primary care, ophthalmology and tele-home health. The 24-bed inpatient mental health facility serves patients needing treatment for PTSD, Substance Abuse and Acute Care.
A 30-bed Community Living Center (CLC) that provides general and ventilator dependent care is located in Miles City. Primary care is provided at Anaconda, Billings, Bozeman, Cutbank, Glasgow, Glendive, Great Falls, Havre, Kalispell, Lewistown, Miles City, and Missoula. Primary Care Telehealth Outreach Clinics ar! e located in Hamilton and Plentywood. Staff and contract specialists visit the clinics regularly and provide access to specialty care as needed.
Montana is the fourth largest state geographically and has one of the largest per capita veteran populations. To augment mental health services in the outbased clinics, VA Montana Health Care System contracted mental health care outside Lewis and Clark County (location of Fort Harrison) to reduce veteran travel. This allowed the VA to provide for local care while maximizing funding in rural areas without making the veteran travel.

Seeking a Nurse Practitioner certified in Adult, Geriatric, or Family Practice discipline.
The Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) Registered Nurse Practitioner (RNP) practices in the residence of the client and via TeleHealth Technology. This RNP is academically and clinically prepared to perform a broad spectrum of patient care services at the expert level. RNPÂ's with licensed independent privilege status have been granted clinical privileges by the Medical Staff and practice autonomously with consultation as necessary. The Registered Nurse Practitioner provides primary care to complex, chronically ill patients who are commonly geriatric and have palliative care needs . Primary care includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment and outcome measures of healthcare problems. This includes the following: initiating and adjusting therapeutic regimens, performing histories and physicals, ordering diagnost! ic and therapeutic tests/studies, initiating consults and referrals, an! d prescribing medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy, VA formulary, State regulations and scope of practice. The RNP works collaboratively with other interdisciplinary team members in providing quality care and patient education. This RNP serves on medical center, VISN and/or national committees and assists in the development, evaluation and communication of policies and standards of advanced nursing practice.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The C! ommission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that
qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of
study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for
the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005,

Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Nurse I Level III - Master's degree in nu! rsing (MSN) and no experience.
Nurse II - Master's degree in nursin! g and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has Doctoral degree ina related field with no experience.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
Preferred Experience: 1-2 years of Primary Care experience at the Master level preferred.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.

Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality;
Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs), moderate carrying (15-44 lbs), straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking, standing, repeated bending, both legs required, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13" to 18" Jaeger 1-4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid permitted), emotional stability, mental stability, sitting 3-4 hours intermittently, hand & eye coordination, and twisting.
