Skillful with IV starts and maintenance
Minimum of 3 years Periop/PACU experience.
Job Summary
Responsible for the supervision of PACU and Peri-Operative Departments, and including integration of the departments into the organization, coordination of inter and intra-departmental services; development and implementation of policies and procedures; recommendations for sufficient numbers of qualified and competent persons; determination of qualifications and competence of staff; continual assessment and improvement of departmental functions; implementation and maintenance of quality care programs; orientation, training, and continuing education of staff; recommending physical and other resources needs and selection of outside sources for needed services not provided within the department. Works in collaboration with Administration, Management colleagues, Physicians and Departmental Staff. Managerâs scope! of responsibility includes pre-surgical assessment, pre-opera! tive day of surgery care, intra-procedural care, and post operative day of surgery care for all patients. May be required to assist with direct patient care as needed, including increased patient acuity and census, call coverage, staff sick calls, and vacations.
Essential Job Functions Interviews and hires staff, considering best fit for the departments. Utilizes peer interviews. Provides feedback, coaching, and counseling on an on-going basis to assist employees to improve performance or develop untapped potential. Facilitates development of staff performance improvement plans when required. Submits employee annual performance appraisals within required time frame. Provides effective communication structure within and among departments. Promotes educational and professional growth for self and staff. Unplanned staff turnover maintained within acceptable levels. Works with staff to maintain appropriate staffing levels on each shift. Clearly articulates expectations to s! taff through communication, job descriptions, and performance standards. Encourages and supports suggestions of employees related to departmental opportunities and improvements. Promotes an environment where staff feels valued and respected. May be required to assist with all staffing duties. Maintains departmental hours per encounter within established target level. Budgets are completed and submitted to appropriate person within established time frames. Provides information for administration related to changes in revenue or expenses for the department throughout the budget year. Promotes an environment that encourages staff to accept responsibility for financial success of the department and the hospital Maintains and monitors internal customer satisfaction through employee surveys. Maintains and monitors physician satisfaction. Monitors patient and family satisfaction through hospital wide patient opinion survey tools and maintains scores at established target levels. C! reates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and pos! itive attitude as well as a calm environment throughout the departments. Develops and assures provision of an annual continuing education program for the departments. Leads staff to develop and accomplish departmental and professional goals annually. Promotes team building activities within and among the departments. Participates in employee recognition events. Develops cross training programs to enhance job satisfaction and flexibility of staff. Actively seeks self-education related to leadership and management topics. Successfully manages transitions and changes. Practices effective time management skills. Practices effective problem solving skills Complies with the policies and procedures of Bozeman Deaconess Hospital Develops and maintains policies and procedures to guide and direct activities of the departments. Refers to policy manual for specific instructions / guidelines. Educates staff on national / state standards and regulations. Monitors and maintains compliance! with applicable standards and regulations. Seeks education for self and staff related to changes in PACU / Peri-operative environments. Promotes a safe environment through participation in and assurance of staff participation safety programs and policies. Demonstrates desirable outcomes from departmental process improvement activities. Maintains departmental quality monitors at established levels. Develops quality monitoring plans pertinent to high risk, low volume, and problematic processes within the department. Analyzes departmental quality data and seeks opportunities for improvements. Adheres to and assures staff adherence to the mission, vision, and values of the hospital and the âCommitment to my Co-workersâ philosophy. Promotes harmonious relationships among team members. Keeps team members informed of pertinent information. Maintains open, pleasant communications inter and intra-departmentally.
