The Patient Access Clerk is responsible for efficient and orderly admission of patients for hospital based outpatient testing or procedures. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Interview patients for the purpose of initiating accounts. Ensure patient demographic! and insurance information is collected to assure rapid reimbursement. Communicates with external payers and employers as necessary. Initiates collection activity by requesting co-payments, deductibles, deposits and anticipated balance due. Receives and documents acceptance of payments on accounts. Provides information and answers questions about consent for treatment, assignment of benefits, acceptance of financial responsibility, release of records, patient rights and responsibilities and advanced directives. Maintains required documentation including patient medical records, logs and schedules, written and electronic. Ensures patient accounts and coverage structures meet standards and billing requirements of various payers. Maintains patient confidentiality policies. Provides coverage for the hospital telephone switchboard. Answers incoming calls and directs to the appropriate party for resolution/action. Acts as a liaison between patients, visitors, and hospital departm! ents. Performs various other related registration and switchboard dutie! s. Knowledge & Skills : Basic computer skills to include Word, Excel, and Outlook, strong customer service skills, the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse customer base, strong organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, detail oriented.
Prefer : Basic familiarity with medical terminology, knowledge of hospital operation processes, including registration, cashiering, referral processes and data entry, working knowledge of healthcare insurance practices and billing, knowledge of health care payer types including Medicare and Medicaid. Proven ability to establish credibility and respect with patients, ability to problem solve and take initiative, ability to provide feedback and education to other staff regarding correct procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :
One year in office environment or experience providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment
