Provides nursing support in the delivery of quality care for the patient in a breast surgery office setting as directed by the physician. Assi! sts in implementing the surgical plan for each patient and assuring that all necessary pre-operative testing and education is completed. Is available for patient questions as they arise and as they relate to surgical planning and post-surgical care.Job Duties: 1. * The registered nurse demonstrates the ability to coordinate patient care with the breast surgeon, corporate departments (surgery, lab, diagnostic imaging etc.) physician offices, social service etc.
in an accurate, professional, timely and compassionate manner2. * Performs and documents comprehensive patient assessment according to breast center guidelines and national nursing standards. Assessing the psychosocial, physical and spiritual needs of the patient,identifying problems or concerns, implementing interventions and evaluation of patient outcomes is demonstration this standard is being met.3. * In a timely and complete manner, the RN ensures all pertinent information is available on Bass Center pat! ient records, which includes referring physician notes, operat! ive information, pathology records, laboratory reports, radiology films etc.
All information is organized for effective and efficient management of information in the patient record.4. * All documentation is accurate, complete, legible, and follows current standards for breast cancer patient documentation. Evidence of following this standard constitutes lack of physician and employee complaints re: egible assessment and follow up to patient care issues.5. * Provides thorough and up to date patient/family education including breast cancer treatment, pre and post op teaching and management of surgical side effects.
Utilizing current literature handouts, patient education folders and videos, the RN supplies information to all patients in an on-going manner. It is the responsibility of the RN to be vigilant in securing or developing the most current education information.6. * In an attentive and professional manner, the RN provides answers to patient questions! , seeking assistance when necessary and keeping the physician/appropriate team members appraised of current patient physical and emotional status.7. * The employee listens to, assesses and documents all patient interactions accurately and completely, including history taking, specimen labeling, vital sign recording and other assigned documentation.
When leaving the room, the patient is ready for the physician appointment.8. * The employee is responsible for triaging and answering patient phone questions in a timely, pleasant and professional manner; seeking physician advice or intervention at appropriate times (diagnostic or prescriptive).9. * The RN helps with minor office procedures, securing appropriate supplies and assistance, while following infection control guidelines. Proactively looks for ways to better assist the physician at all times.10.
- Pre certifies patient for surgery per corporation guidelines in a timely, accurate and professional! manner11. * The RN follows completes basic patient post op care proced! ures with competence and completeness (i.e. drain removal etc.)12. * Practices team member etiquette, does not gossip, offers assistance to busy staff members, discusses problems/issues with team members involved (mail to the right address) and mentors new staff with compassion and patience.
- Annually the employee assesses personal educational needs, seek! ing to update knowledge base as necessary to provide quality and current radiation therapy.17. * The employee is vigilant of unit specific and organizational wide budget constraints, as demonstrated by appropriate utilization of all resources, which includes but is not limited to: supplies, overtime, low census and a timelines of work product.18. * Role models appropriate communication in all interactions including but not limited to: phone, fax, e-mail and interpersonal etiquette.19. * Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized while functioning calmly and efficiently in a changing environment.20.
