We†re a regional destination hospital with a comprehensive range of services, including: Level II trauma center, cardiothoracic and vascular medicine, neurosurgery, orthopedics and general surgery, a designated †Breast Center of Excellence,†and a family-centered mate! rnal and child health, including a Level III NICU and PICU.Rig! ht now we†re seeking a System Claims Specialist to serve in our Legal/Risk Management Department and report to the Director, Claims Services. You†ll be responsible for investigating, evaluating, and resolving all Property and Casualty claims and Potentially Compensable Events (PCE) involving the System and Care Site organizations in accordance with industry Best Practices. This includes having a detailed knowledge of Hospital Professional Liability, Physician Professional Liability, Commercial General Liability, Executive Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, and other collateral lines insurance policy coverage provisions and exclusions to evaluate the availability of coverage for an event or occurrence. You†ll also manage and direct the litigation process with external counsel to achieve an optimal outcome for the individual case, as well as manage the financial resources of SCLHS by efficiently coordinating the activity on litigated claim! s and provide superior claim services to claimants, the System Office, Care Sites, and excess insurance/reinsurance carriers.Requirements include the following:
• College Degree or equivalent experience in business discipline, legal discipline, or clinical care area.
• Five years†experience in claim operations environment, or equivalent experience, handling complex Property and Casualty Claims with focus on: Medical Professional, General Liability, Legal Professional, Directors and Officers Liability, and Employment Practices Liability.
• Technical knowledge of Healthcare Medical Professional, General Liability, Legal Professional, Directors and Officers Liability, and Employment Practices Liability claim investigation, evaluation, and resolution techniques.
• Knowledge of human anatomy and medical procedures.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong customer focus.
