Revenue Cycle in Missoula, MT.
The Coding QI Review Coordinator is critical to the coding compliance program. By performin! g audits of hospital coding, training new coding staff, preparing and presenting educational sessions for the coders and staying current with official coding guidelines and regulations, the incumbent ensures the proper coding of PH&S hospital medical records.
In this position you will:
Ensure proper coding of hospital medical records through training, auditing and research.
Act as a subject matter expert for the coding staff.
Perform random and focused audits of HIM-coded medical records by reviewing charts for coding accuracy, including DRG or APC, severity of illness and risk of mortality levels. In addition, check the completeness and accuracy of abstracting, including discharge disposition and present on admission indicators.
Research and answer coding questions, enlisting the assistance of colleagues, including CDS nurses, supervisor or manager as needed.
Review RAC coding denials and underpayments as well as codi! ng-related insurance company denials and provide rationale for! appeals.
Identify, resolve and escalate major issues and service failures that impede success.
Required
qualifications for this position include:
Graduation from an AHIMA-accredited health information technology, management of coding certificate program.
Current RHIT, RHIA, CCS or CCS-P or other recognized coding credential.
At least 5 years recent acute care hospital inpatient, day surgery or emergency department coding experience.
Proven thorough knowledge of ICD-9-CM and/or CPT coding principles and conventions, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, human disease processes prospective payment systems (DRGs) and Present on Admission (POA) assignment.
Demonstrated knowledge of CMS, Medicaid and other regulatory guidelines including current Evaluation and Management documentation and coding rules.
Proven PC Proficiency in MS Windows and Office applications.
